Suffering From Anxiety? Get The Massage Therapy You Need!

Anxiety comes from all sorts of problems throughout life. Whether it is due to having to speak in front of an audience or worrying about social interactions, anxiety can become next to unbearable for those suffering from generalized anxiety disorder. This doesn’t mean it is impossible to treat, or that an individual needs to take medication in order to alleviate symptoms. Massage therapy has relaxing results and provides therapeutic solutions for improving many areas of life, including allowing individuals experiencing anxiety to lower their fear and stress levels, which helps to alleviate or entirely eliminate anxiety in many different forms.

What Causes Anxiety?

Anxiety is an affliction everyone experiences, in one way or another, during their lifetime, but many suffer from it far more frequently than others. Anxiety is a feeling that sometimes simply comes about and has no clear-cut reasoning. Anxiety has been around almost as long as humans have existed. It initially developed when humans feared a wild animal could attack them, or when they had to fight or escape from a dangerous situation. In other words, it is directly related to the fight or flight theory. Anxiety helps prime the body to react to a dangerous situation, allowing it to escape with the pumped up adrenaline.

Now, being attacked by a wild animal is not something many humans now experience. However, there are other situations and circumstances where individuals have to deal with potentially terrifying situations. From presenting in front of a class, to a job interview, there are potential consequences of not performing at your best, which is why generalized anxiety disorder exhibits itself in millions of individuals throughout the world.

Anxiety is not only in your head. Many individuals have a physical reaction to the anxiety as well. Their backs and shoulders might tighten up. The tighter muscles then develop into knots, which can directly affect the person's anxiety, making it worse and exacerbating the symptoms. Now when the person experiences anxiety, their back and various other body parts might begin to hurt, which can result in them fearing the situation even more. By alleviating pain and freeing up the body’s tension, it helps lower anxiety levels and, potentially, frees the body from anxiety entirely (at least in some situtations).

How the Massage Helps

Due to the fact that anxiety affects various areas of the body, such as the lower back, neck and shoulders, a licensed massage therapist is able to work these areas where the tension is. By working the tight, tense areas, the oxytocin and serotonin in the body increase, which alleviates stress throughout the body. On top of this, just feeling more relaxed will allow the individual to reduce their anxiety level, as well as the body does not instantly become tense and sore when thinking about a specific experience that typically results in increased anxiety levels. By suddenly not having the tight, sore feeling, it is possible to avoid falling into similar anxiety patterns they formerly were forced deal with.

Following a massage, the nervous system lowers the heart rate and improves breathing. With these areas of the body's performance being enhanced, it allows the individual to sleep better, which is also going to have a positive impact on the lowering of general anxiety disorder.

The Power of Massage Therapy

There are certainly major benefits available for anyone suffering from generalized anxiety disorder that are looking to reduce their symptoms with the help of a professional massage. By determine the key areas in the body and reducing the tension inside, it allows an individual to cut the stress, improve their body's condition and live a more comfortable, anxiety free life.
